A message from incoming president Mitch Feingold

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the San Diego Filmmakers community.

Before I continue, however, I want to recognize our outgoing president, Dearin Crockett. Dearin has finished his term as President, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career as an actor. All of us at San Diego Filmmakers thank Dearin for the excellent job he has done. He certainly raised the bar, and contributed a great deal to the association's growth. Anyone who has worked with him appreciates his many talents and professionalism. Dearin, we wish you the best, and we look forward to seeing you on the big screen. Remember, you always have a home at San Diego Filmmakers!

This month, I assumed the role and responsibilities of President. The year 2012 will be about growth and formalization. Through my company, Mitch Feingold Presents, I have nearly 20 years of experience with producing, directing, writing, and performing improv sketch comedy, stand-up comedy, and music shows for corporate and public events. Currently, I'm studying acting with Billy Cowart at WCI Studios.

Greg Lefevre has accepted the role of Vice President. He is the owner of Greg Lefevre Media, where he works as a professional training and coaching consultant for corporate and community leaders. Previously, he was a correspondent at CBS in Northern California, and served as a bureau chief at CNN for 18 years, directing major network news coverage for an 11-state region.

Our commitment, of the necessary time and effort to support this association's growth, is only a small part of what it takes to make things happen. A team of volunteers is absolutely critical to keeping the organization running smoothly and effectively. We are always looking for volunteers to participate as members of the Planning Committee, which meets on the third Tuesday of every month at Video Gear.

Martin Banks, who is the founding sponsor of San Diego Filmmakers, has relocated Video Gear to a new location—8969 Kenamar Dr., Suite 104, San Diego, CA 92121. If you are interested in volunteering, please get in touch with us during our next event on December 13 at Groovy Like A Movie.

Last month's Sixth Year Anniversary Party at the Marriott Courtyard San Diego Central Hotel was a big success. We had 155 attendees. To all of those who made the event possible, and to all of those who attended, thank you! We plan to make such events an annual occurrence.

Finally, I would like to thank Aaron Matthew Kaiser, a cofounder of San Diego Filmmakers, for all he has done—not only in the way he has conducted the monthly events, but the enormous amount of work he did behind the scenes! Although Aaron lives in Burbank, he would commute to every event, and call in for our monthly planning sessions. While I would kid with him about his introductory "monologues," he was a driving force in making every event a success. On December 13, Aaron will emcee the final event of the year for the last time. I hope that you all come out to give Aaron what he deserves—a standing ovation! Thank you, Aaron.

I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving holiday, and I look forward to seeing you at our next event!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN DIEGO (October 27, 2011) — San Diego Filmmakers, the association for film and television professionals in San Diego County, today announced that its sixth year anniversary will be celebrated on November 8, 2011, at the Marriott Courtyard San Diego Central hotel, from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. Tickets to the event are now on sale for US$10.00 each. Space is limited.

San Diego Filmmakers was established in September 2005 by award-winning writers, directors, and producers who came together to create a resource for filmmakers through which they could share insight, engage in meaningful dialogue, and form lasting connections. The association's first events featured Silver writer Chrisanna Northrup, former San Diego Film Commission vice president and director of features Kathy McCurdy, and Tombstone producer Bob Misiorowski. The founding board of directors was comprised of writer-director Dan Margules, producer-writer Aaron Matthew Kaiser, producer-director Gerald "Wade" Varney, writer-director Robin Rigby, and Video Gear founder Martin Banks.

Since then, San Diego Filmmakers has produced nearly 80 events which have featured more than 100 exceptional guest speakers, including actor Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica), character actor Doug Jones (Hellboy, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer), actor-comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence (The Pursuit of Happyness, Chuck), actor Faran Tahir (Iron Man, Star Trek), writer Jimmy Diggs (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager), Emmy Award-winning producer Erik Bork (From the Earth to the Moon, Band of Brothers), Sundance Film Festival award-winning director Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12), and Oscar-nominated director Gregg Helvey (Kavi).

"Filmmakers must face great challenges wherever they are, but outside Hollywood, the road is even rougher. Experienced crew, talent, and project advisors are harder to find as you move farther away from the center of the film industry," said San Diego Filmmakers cofounder Aaron Matthew Kaiser. "Through San Diego Filmmakers, independent filmmakers are inspired, empowered, and connected. They join a community which provides them with access to a rich and diverse network of talent and resources."

San Diego Filmmakers is hosting its sixth year anniversary party at the Marriott Courtyard San Diego Central hotel, which is located at 8651 Spectrum Center Blvd., San Diego, California 92123 USA. You can purchase tickets at $10.00 each via sdfilmmakers.org or sdf2011anniversary.eventbrite.com.
